Do people, places and things zap your energy?

so often hear things like “I just hate visiting _______ because we always sit in their family room and there is something about that room that just zaps my energy”. Or, “whenever _______ calls I want to run and hide because all I hear for the next 45 minutes is how bad everything is in her world”. I’ve even had clients tell me “I know this is my own home but somehow every time I come home I just feel like something in this house is draining my energy”.

These are all real life statements clients have shared with me about their own homes and their friends. Their ultimate question always is “can I make it better, do I have to get rid of my friend or do I have to move”? The answer generally can vary as much as the question however usually, it is yes, you can do something about any of the above through the use of Feng Shui principles and creating positive energy shifts in your surroundings and relationships.

Each of the examples above describes how your surroundings and/or the people in your world zap your energy. It is hard to do something about other people’s homes other than not to visit so often or entertain them more in your own home. But, you certainly can do something about your own home and the people you allow into your world. The universal definition I’ve created that best describes Feng Shui energy is “the use of positive energy to bring about desired results”. Therefore, anything or anyone zapping your positive energy will respond nicely to you shifting the energy in your world through the use of some basic Feng Shui principles.

Let’s begin with the scenario of friends that are always filled with negative energy and negative news that keep you hiding from the telephone and zap your energy. First of all, do you wish to keep all of those type friends in your world permanently? Are there some of them that are an unequal relationship of convenience (theirs, not yours)? In healthy positive energy relationships, each friend or partner should give positive energy equally to the other in some form. If that is not the case in some of your relationships than it is not out of the question to either eliminate negative energy people from your life or at minimum, limit your contact with them. This is why it is so very important to evaluate potential long term relationships in the form of equal energy. It is very easy to get married but much more difficult to end an unfulfilling unequal relationship legally.

If the friends you have are ones you wish to permanently keep then it is time to shift their energy in your world from negative to positive. Begin by un-cluttering the two most significant relationship areas of your home, the southwest and the east area of your family/living room. If the relationship in question is a personal one with a significant other or a spouse, un-clutter those same areas in your bedroom. Next energize those areas. In the southwest place something that will symbolize a healthy equal relationship for you such as a collection of your favorite things or pictures of family or good friends that represent the type of relationships you want. You can even use a beautiful bouquet of flowers that symbolizes a wide variety of equal but wonderful relationships. In the east place a very healthy upward reaching green plant (silk will work if you do not have a green thumb or the right amount of light). The plant (or small tree) energizes new beginnings, giving birth to new relationships and changing existing ones for the better. If the relationship is of a personal nature, use the same process in your bedroom but think pairs, couples or togetherness for your enhancement. This process will create positive energy for current and future relationships plus shift existing negative energy relationships into either neutral or positive. It just takes time for the energy to make this kind of positive energy shift permanent.

As to the home example, take a close look at whether it is your entire home or only a room in your home that is zapping your energy. If it is the entire home, call in an expert for a consultation. Otherwise check each room that you feel really good in and try to determine why. Once you know “the why”, it is easy to transfer some of that same positive energy to the rooms that are zapping your energy. It may be as simple as certain rooms are too yin (dark or depressing) for your yang nature and need to be brighten up and made lighter. Certain rooms may be too yang (bright, light and invigorating) for your yin nature and need to be toned down.

When your energy is zapped, look around to see what and who is in your surroundings. Use the simple energy shifting principle of Feng Shui; un-clutter first then use positive energy to bring about desired results. It doesn’t matter what zaps your energy. What does matter is finding what you need to do to create a positive energy shift to put an end to the zapping and then do it.
